St.Lucia

Photography: © Steven AllanSt. Lucia joined the IWC in 1981 and
voted in favour of the moratorium on commercial whaling. Its
voting pattern changed in the late 1980s, and by 1992 St. Lucia’s
votes were wholly in line with Japan’s. Only 9 of the 140 votes cast by
both countries since 1992 have been different - and more than half of these were
abstentions by St. Lucia rather than votes opposing Japan’s position.
TAKE ACTION
Write to government representatives of Saint Lucia and ask them to vote for whales,
not whaling.
